Plant Care

Plant Care Made Simple

Everything your plants need to grow happy, healthy & beautiful.

Taking care of plants doesn’t have to be complicated. With the right light, water, soil, and a little attention, you can help your plants thrive.

Whether you’re caring for your first plant or growing a whole indoor jungle, Plant Society is here to make plant care simple. 🌿

Start With the Basics

💧 Water

Water your plants when they actually need it—not simply because it’s watering day.

Before watering, gently check the top layer of soil. If it feels dry, your plant may be ready for a drink. Always make sure excess water can drain away, as constantly wet soil can lead to root problems.

Tip: Different plants have different watering needs, so always check what your particular plant prefers.

☀️ Light

Light is one of the most important things your plant needs.

Some plants love bright, indirect sunlight, while others can tolerate lower-light spaces. Place your plant according to its light requirements and avoid sudden changes in its environment.

Tip: Bright, indirect light is a good starting point for many popular indoor plants.

🌱 Soil & Drainage

Healthy roots need room to breathe.

Choose a potting mix that suits your plant and always use a pot with proper drainage. Drainage holes allow excess water to escape and help prevent water from sitting around the roots.

Tip: Never choose a beautiful pot at the expense of good drainage.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

Most indoor plants enjoy a stable, comfortable environment.

Keep your plants away from extreme heat, cold drafts, and sudden temperature changes. Some tropical plants also appreciate higher humidity.

Tip: Avoid placing plants directly beside air conditioners, heaters, or very hot windows.

Know Your Plant

Different plants have different personalities—and different needs.

🪴 Indoor Plants

Most indoor plants prefer bright, indirect light and consistent care. Check the soil before watering and keep them away from harsh direct sunlight unless the plant specifically enjoys it.

🌵 Succulents

Succulents generally prefer plenty of bright light and less frequent watering. Let the soil dry out between waterings and avoid leaving them sitting in water.

🌿 Low-Light Plants

Low-light plants can tolerate less sunlight, making them great for offices, bedrooms, and darker corners. However, low light doesn’t mean no light.

🌱 Beginner-Friendly Plants

If you’re new to plant care, start with hardy varieties that are more forgiving of occasional mistakes. Once you get comfortable, you can slowly expand your collection.

Common Plant Problems

Yellow Leaves

Yellow leaves can have several causes, including overwatering, underwatering, insufficient light, or natural ageing.

What to do: Check the soil moisture and your plant’s lighting conditions before changing your watering routine.

Brown Leaf Tips

Brown tips can be caused by dry air, inconsistent watering, too much fertiliser, or other environmental stress.

What to do: Check the moisture level, humidity, and overall environment around your plant.

Drooping Leaves

Drooping can be a sign that your plant is thirsty, but it can also happen when the roots are receiving too much water.

What to do: Check the soil first instead of immediately adding more water.

Dusty Leaves

Dust can build up on leaves and make your plants look dull.

What to do: Gently wipe broad leaves with a clean, damp cloth. Be gentle and avoid damaging delicate leaves.

A Simple Plant-Care Routine

🌱 Once a Week

1. Check the soil
See if your plant actually needs water.

2. Check the leaves
Look for yellowing, spots, pests, or unusual changes.

3. Check the light
Make sure your plant is still getting the right amount of light.

4. Clean the leaves
Remove dust when needed.

5. Rotate your plant
Turn your pot occasionally so the plant can grow more evenly.

Give Your Plants a Little Extra Love

Healthy plants need more than just water.

Regularly remove dead or damaged leaves, keep the foliage clean, and give your plants enough room to grow. As your plant grows, you may also need to repot it into a larger container.

Most importantly, pay attention to your plant. Changes in its leaves, soil, and growth can tell you a lot about what it needs.
